Kymco Maxi Scooters UK:
AK 575 Premium &amp; CV3 Reviewed

Maxi Scooters Published: 13 April 2026 10 min read By Kymco UK

The Kymco maxi scooter range in the UK comprises two machines: the AK 575 Premium, a twin-cylinder performance tourer priced at 9,999inc.VAT, and the CV3, a three-wheeled flagship at 10,999inc.VAT. Both require a full A motorcycle licence. Both offer genuine motorcycle-class performance in a scooter package and both undercut their closest European rivals on price by a meaningful margin.

The maxi scooter market in the UK is a genuinely compelling space for full-licence riders. Machines in this class offer the effortless, automatic twist-and-go convenience of a commuter scooter but with the engine displacement, top speed, and highway capability of a large-capacity motorcycle. If you regularly cover both urban and motorway miles and want a single machine that handles both without compromise a maxi scooter deserves serious consideration.

What Licence Do You Need for a Kymco Maxi Scooter?

Both Kymco maxi scooters available in the UK require a full A category motorcycle licence. This is not a restriction of the machines it is a reflection of their genuine performance level.

Licence requirements at a glance:

AK 575 Premium 38.5kW output exceeds the 35kW A2 licence limit. A full A licence is required (minimum age 24, or 21 with two years on an A2).

CV3 As a three-wheeled vehicle, the CV3 can also be ridden on a full car driving licence issued before 19 January 2013. Riders without this entitlement require a full A licence or category B1 (three-wheeler) entitlement. Always verify your specific licence category with the DVLA before purchase.

Neither model is A2-licence compatible. If you hold an A2 licence and are looking for a 125cc maxi-style scooter, please see our X-Town 125.

The Kymco AK 575 Premium Twin-Cylinder Performance

The AK 575 Premium is the core of Kymco&#039;s UK maxi scooter offering. Its 575cc DOHC in-line twin produces 38.5kW (approximately 52HP) at 7,000rpm and 56.4Nm of torque at 5,750rpm figures that place it comfortably in the performance scooter bracket alongside the Yamaha TMAX and BMW C650 GT, but at a significantly lower entry price.

The twin-cylinder configuration matters for the kind of riding a maxi scooter is typically used for. Parallel twin engines deliver a notably smoother, more refined power delivery than single-cylinder alternatives, particularly at motorway speeds where the reduction in vibration and the wider spread of torque makes sustained high-speed riding considerably less tiring. The AK 575 Premium&#039;s CVT transmission handles all gear selection automatically, so the rider focuses entirely on throttle, braking, and road conditions.

The chassis specification matches the engine ambition. Upside-down front forks, 15-inch wheels, AIBS cornering ABS technology (which adjusts braking force based on lean angle), dual 270mm front discs, and a 260mm rear disc give the AK 575 a braking and suspension package that most scooters at this price point don&#039;t come close to offering as standard.

&quot;At 9,999 inclusive of VAT, the AK 575 Premium lands below the Yamaha TMAX&#039;s entry price and significantly below the BMW C650 GT  with a comparable specification.&quot;

Real-World Use Cases

The AK 575 Premium is genuinely suited to riders who commute significant distances and want the same machine for weekend riding. A 14.5-litre tank provides reasonable range for the daily commute; the twin-cylinder engine and premium suspension make weekend runs on A and B roads rewarding rather than merely functional. A 785mm seat height is accessible for a wide range of riders, and the step-through access means the practicalities of urban riding traffic filtering, car park manoeuvres are handled with more ease than on an equivalent naked motorcycle.

The Kymco CV3 Three Wheels, a Category Apart

The CV3 is a fundamentally different proposition. As the only three-wheeled scooter in the Kymco UK range, it occupies a category that competes with the Piaggio MP3 and Yamaha Tricity rather than the two-wheeled maxi scooter class.

Its 574cc in-line twin produces 37.6kW and 54.4Nm similar figures to the AK 575 in a different chassis package. The front two-wheel layout, combined with the KALS (KYMCO Advanced Leaning Suspension) system and electronic anti-leaning mechanism, provides a fundamentally more stable platform particularly in low-speed manoeuvring, wet conditions, and on uneven surfaces where a two-wheeled machine would rely entirely on rider balance. The CV3 leans into corners like a conventional scooter but stands upright independently when stationary.

Additional standard equipment includes cruise control, heated grips, keyless one-touch start, a 6-inch TFT display, and a standing assist system. The CV3 also benefits from a 55mpg economy figure and a 190-mile range useful data points for anyone using it as a primary commuter or leisure tourer.

One notable advantage: car licence holders whose licence was issued before 19 January 2013 may be entitled to ride the CV3 under existing B category entitlements. Always confirm with the DVLA.

How Do the Kymco Maxi Scooters Compare to Rivals?

Both UK Kymco maxi scooters are positioned at the premium end of the market but offer genuine value against the European alternatives they compete with directly.

Value Position

The AK 575 Premium arrives with AIBS cornering ABS and upside-down forks as standard equipment that rivals charge extra for or omit entirely at a comparable price. Against the Yamaha TMAX 560, the AK 575 undercuts on list price by approximately 2,400 whilst offering marginally more power. Against the BMW C650 GT, the saving is closer to 1,700. For a rider whose priority is performance-per-pound rather than badge prestige, the case for Kymco is straightforward.

For the three-wheeler category, the CV3 at 10,999 competes directly with the Piaggio MP3 530 at around 11,999 and offers meaningfully more sophisticated suspension technology in the KALS system.

Maxi Scooter vs Naked Motorcycle: Which Is Right for You?

For a full-licence rider deciding between a large-capacity maxi scooter and an equivalent naked motorcycle, the choice comes down to priorities.

A maxi scooter wins on practicality, effortlessness, and day-to-day versatility. Step-through access is faster in stop-start traffic. Integrated storage means no tank bag or top box required. The automatic transmission is genuinely relaxing over long distances and in urban riding. For riders who commute five days a week and want the occasional weekend run thrown in, a maxi scooter is almost certainly the more sensible purchase.

If spirited B-road riding and the tactile engagement of a manual gearbox are the primary objectives, a naked bike will likely suit better. Most riders, on honest reflection, do the former.

Running Costs: What Does a Kymco Maxi Scooter Cost to Own?

The CV3&#039;s published figures give a useful benchmark for the class: 55mpg in mixed riding and a 73 annual road tax rate for a 574cc machine. On current pump prices, 55mpg translates to approximately 78 per 100 miles considerably cheaper per mile than a car and competitive with smaller-capacity alternatives.

Insurance for 575cc scooters sits broadly in line with equivalent-capacity naked motorcycles cheaper than large-bore superbikes, more expensive than 125cc machines. The cornering ABS and traction control standard on both models should reflect favourably with most underwriters. Service intervals on both models are typically every 6,000 miles or 12 months discuss current terms with your Kymco dealer.

Verdict: Which Kymco Maxi Scooter Is Right for You?

The choice between the AK 575 Premium and CV3 is less about specification and more about the type of rider you are.

If you want a conventional two-wheeled maxi scooter that competes directly with the Yamaha TMAX and BMW C650 GT at a meaningfully lower price, with cornering ABS and upside-down forks as standard, the AK 575 Premium at 9,999 is the answer. It is a proper, performance-focused machine that does not ask you to compromise.

If stability, all-weather confidence, the unique advantage of three-wheel physics, and a flagship technology specification are your priority or if you hold a pre-2013 car licence and want to avoid the motorcycle test the CV3 at 10,999 is a genuinely distinctive machine with no direct equivalent in the Kymco range.

Kymco DTX 320 Review The Adventure Scooter That Changes the Game

The adventure scooter is a category that barely existed five years ago. Now it sits at the most interesting corner of the two-wheeled market practical enough for daily commuting, characterful enough to tempt weekend riders away from the motorway. The Kymco DTX 360 range was built specifically for this space, and it arrives at a price that should make the established European brands take notice.

What Is the Kymco DTX 320?

The DTX 360 range is Kymco&#039;s crossover answer to the question: what if a maxi scooter looked like it meant business? Launched in 2021 and built to Euro 5 standards, the range comprises two models the DTX 125, designed for CBT and A1 licence riders, and the DTX 320, the full 320cc variant reviewed here. It is the DTX 320 that makes most sense for UK adults, offering genuine motorway capability and the kind of everyday versatility that earns a permanent place in your garage.

Visually, the DTX 320 makes a strong statement. Wide handlebars, pronounced knuckle guards, a high-riding stance, and adventure-spec semi-knobbly tyres give it a look that stands well apart from conventional maxi scooters in its price bracket. Whether you think it looks purposeful or theatrical probably depends on your taste but it is certainly distinctive on UK roads.

The DTX 320 produces 21kW, placing it comfortably within A2 licence restrictions without any power restriction kit required. That matters for riders who passed their test in the last decade and haven&#039;t yet progressed to a full A licence.

Engine &amp; Performance: How Does It Ride?

At the heart of the DTX 320 is a 320.6cc liquid-cooled SOHC single-cylinder engine producing 28.2bhp (21kW) at 7,500rpm and 30Nm of torque at 5,750rpm. Power is delivered through a CVT transmission no clutch, no gearbox, just twist and go. For riders moving up from a 125, the difference in real-world punch is immediately apparent.

On UK roads, the DTX 320 handles itself well. Urban riding is effortless the engine pulls cleanly from low revs, and filtering through traffic feels natural thanks to the wide handlebar leverage that gives you precise low-speed control. Once out of town, cruising at national speed limit requires no strain from the engine, and overtaking at 6070mph is dealt with confidently. The quoted top speed sits around 85mph, which is sensible rather than spectacular, but more than adequate for UK conditions.

What impresses most is the smoothness of the CVT delivery. There are no surges or flat spots across the rev range, and the engine note settles into a quiet, composed hum once above 50mph. For riders who commute through a mix of city traffic and A-roads, the DTX 320 rarely asks you to work hard.

&quot;On UK roads, the DTX 320 handles itself well. Urban riding is effortless  the engine pulls cleanly from low revs, and filtering through traffic feels natural.&quot;

Off-Road Capability: How Much Adventure Can It Actually Handle?

Let us be direct here, because adventure styling and adventure capability are not the same thing. The DTX 320 is built to handle UK country roads, green lanes, and compacted gravel tracks rather than technical off-road terrain. If you are expecting enduro performance from a 194kg scooter with a CVT, you will be disappointed. If you want a machine that handles potholed B-roads, wet leaves, and the occasional gravel track without drama, the DTX 320 does that convincingly.

The semi-knobbly tyres 120/80-14 front and 150/70-13 rear provide genuinely better wet grip than standard road tyres, which is more relevant in the UK climate than any off-road posturing. The telescopic front forks with 110mm of travel and the five-way adjustable rear units soak up poor surfaces with more composure than you would expect at this price point. Ground clearance is usefully generous, and the upright riding position keeps weight balanced and planted.

Traction control (TCS) is standard equipment, which further builds confidence on loose or slippery surfaces. It is unobtrusive and does not sanitise the riding experience it simply catches slides before they become problems. In a British autumn or winter, that matters.

Wide handlebars, knuckle guards and adventure tyres the DTX 320 looks purposeful and backs it up on real UK roads.

Comfort &amp; Ergonomics: Built for Real-World UK Roads

The DTX 320&#039;s seat height of 800mm sits at the sportier end for a scooter, but the ergonomics are genuinely comfortable for sustained riding. The wide handlebars place your wrists in a natural position, the footboards are well positioned for a range of rider heights, and the seat offers good support across longer journeys.

The adjustable windscreen provides reasonable protection at motorway speeds not exceptional, but enough that you will not arrive at your destination exhausted from fighting wind blast. Tall riders may find they want to upgrade to an aftermarket screen for extended touring. That is a fair compromise at this price.

At 194kg dry weight, the DTX 320 is not a lightweight machine, but it carries its mass well. At low speed and when manoeuvring in car parks, it feels manageable. Once rolling, the weight becomes invisible. The 12.5-litre fuel tank and a real-world fuel economy of around 65mpg translate to approximately 180 miles of range between stops comfortable for most UK riding without range anxiety.

Tech &amp; Features: What Do You Get for the Money?

The standard equipment list is one of the DTX 320&#039;s genuine strengths. At 4,799, you receive a full-colour TFT instrument display, keyless ignition, ABS brakes, traction control, all-LED lighting, and two USB charging ports as standard. These are features that cost more to add to several rival machines at the same price point.

Full-Colour TFT Display Keyless Ignition Traction Control (TCS) ABS Brakes All-LED Lighting 2x USB Charging Ports Adjustable Windscreen Adjustable Rear Suspension Handguards Semi-Knobbly Adventure Tyres

The digital display is clear in both bright sunlight and low light, showing speed, fuel level, trip data, and a gear position indicator. Two USB ports are a straightforward practical touch for riders who rely on phone navigation.

Under-seat storage is functional rather than generous there is room for a compact helmet or essentials, but the DTX 320 is not a long-distance tourer in the mould of the X-Town. The trade-off for the adventure styling is that storage space takes second place.

Who Is the DTX 320 Best Suited To?

The DTX 320 has a specific ideal rider in mind, and it is worth being honest about who that is. This machine makes most sense for commuters and leisure riders who want something with more character and visual presence than a conventional maxi scooter, without paying flagship prices. It suits riders who cover a mix of urban traffic, A-roads, and the occasional rough lane, and who value practicality alongside personality.

A2 licence holders will find it particularly appealing it is one of very few properly equipped adventure-styled scooters available within A2 power limits without restriction kits. For riders who passed their test within the last ten years and ride on an A2 licence, the choice in this segment is genuinely limited. The DTX 320 gives them something interesting to ride.

It is less well-suited to committed touring riders who need extensive storage, or to those expecting genuine off-road capability. If you want luggage capacity and long-distance comfort above all else, the Kymco AK 575 Premium is a more appropriate tool. If you are a new rider on a 125cc scooter looking ahead to your first upgrade, the DTX 320 is a natural next step genuinely better in almost every respect, but without the intimidating step up in size and weight that a traditional motorcycle represents.

Pricing &amp; Value: Is It Worth It?

At 4,799 OTR, the DTX 320 positions itself very compellingly against its nearest rivals. The Honda ADV350 the machine Kymco most clearly had in mind when developing the DTX is priced at approximately 5,899, a saving of over 1,100. The Suzuki Burgman 400 sits higher still. The Yamaha XMAX 300 competes more closely on price but offers a notably different character more conventional maxi scooter, less adventure styling.

How the DTX 320 Compares on Price

When you weigh the standard equipment list against those prices, the Kymco case becomes straightforward. You receive traction control, ABS, a TFT display, keyless ignition, and USB charging as standard, in a machine that undercuts the Honda ADV350 by over 1,100. The Yamaha XMAX 300 often cited as the closest rival offers no traction control as standard at this price point.

Running costs are competitive. At 65mpg, even with current fuel prices, daily running remains modest. Insurance groups for the DTX 320 are broadly similar to competitors in the 300400cc class, and parts availability from Kymco&#039;s UK network is improving as the model matures.

The DTX 320 in Khaki Green a distinctive alternative to the conventional maxi scooter in its price bracket.

Verdict

The Kymco DTX 320 is a machine that does what it says with conviction, provided you understand what it is saying. It is not an off-road tool. It is not the most storage-efficient commuter in its class. What it is, emphatically, is an engaging, well-equipped, and attractively priced scooter with genuine character that earns its adventure styling rather than merely borrowing it from a marketing department.

For A2 licence holders, for commuters who want something interesting to ride, and for riders upgrading from 125cc machines, the DTX 320 makes a convincing argument. At this price, with this specification, and against this competition, Kymco has produced something that deserves to be taken seriously.

Whether you&#039;re stepping onto two wheels for the first time or looking for a practical daily rider, a 125cc scooter remains one of the most sensible decisions you can make on UK roads in 2026. Economical to run, accessible on a CBT certificate, and increasingly well-specified, the modern 125cc class has never offered better value for money and Kymco&#039;s UK lineup sits firmly at the heart of it.

16 Minimum age for CBT (mopeds)

11kW Power limit on A1 licence

2,299 Kymco 125cc entry price (approx. OTR)

Why a 125cc Scooter Makes Sense in the UK

In a country where commuting costs are high, urban traffic is relentless, and fuel prices rarely give anyone a reason to smile, a 125cc scooter makes a compelling argument. You can expect somewhere between 80 and 100 miles per gallon from a modern 125cc machine, meaning a full tank typically costs less than 10. Road tax sits at roughly 26 a year barely noticeable in any household budget. Parking in most town and city centres is free or far cheaper than for a car.

There is also the question of practicality in stop-start traffic. A 125cc scooter will filter legally between stationary vehicles and reach destinations in urban environments quicker than most cars during peak hours. For commuters covering up to twenty or thirty miles each way, a modern 125cc scooter is not a compromise it is often the fastest option available.

Then there is the licence barrier, which for 125cc machines is about as low as it gets. A CBT certificate can be completed in a single day, and you are on the road. For anyone who is not yet sure they want to commit to full motorcycle training, the 125cc class is a genuine, low-risk entry point into riding.

What Licence Do You Need? CBT, A1, and the Rules Explained

Licence requirements in the UK for 125cc riding are straightforward, but it is worth understanding them clearly before you buy.

Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)

The CBT is the most common route onto a 125cc scooter or motorcycle. It is not a test in the traditional sense you cannot fail it outright. Instead, it is a structured training course that teaches you the basics of safe riding, both on-site and on public roads. Once completed, you receive a certificate (DL196) which is valid for two years.

With a valid CBT you can ride any motorcycle or scooter up to 125cc and up to 11kW (14.8bhp) on public roads. You must display L plates, cannot carry a pillion passenger, and cannot use motorways. The minimum age is 17 for a 125cc machine. At 16 you can ride a moped (up to 50cc), but not a 125cc.

If your CBT expires, you must either take it again or stop riding there is no grace period. Most training schools charge between 130 and 180 for a CBT session.

A1 Motorcycle Licence

The A1 is a full motorcycle licence category covering light motorcycles up to 125cc and 11kW, with a power-to-weight ratio not exceeding 0.1kW/kg. Unlike the CBT, it removes the learner restrictions entirely no L plates, no bar on passengers, and motorway riding is permitted.

To obtain an A1 you must pass the theory test, then complete Module 1 (off-road manoeuvres) and Module 2 (on-road riding). The minimum age is 17. Both practical modules must be passed on a 120125cc motorcycle capable of at least 55mph. It is a more substantial commitment than a CBT, but for anyone planning to ride regularly for more than two years, it removes the hassle of renewing a CBT certificate and opens up full riding entitlement within the 125cc category.

From 17 you can also begin working toward an A2 or full A licence, which opens up larger, more powerful machines. See Kymco&#039;s full range for what becomes available as you progress through the licence categories.

What to Look for When Buying a 125cc Scooter

Not all 125cc scooters are alike. Once you have settled on the class, the next decision is what kind of machine fits your life. Here are the key considerations.

Automatic vs Manual

The majority of 125cc scooters use an automatic CVT transmission, which means there is no clutch or gear lever to manage twist the throttle and go. This makes them significantly easier to ride in town and is the reason most beginners favour scooters over manual motorcycles. If you want a manual gearbox five or six gears operated by a clutch you are generally looking at a 125cc naked motorcycle or sports bike rather than a conventional scooter. Kymco offers both: the VSR 125 is a manual-gearbox naked bike, whilst the Agility, Skytown, X-Town, and DTX 125 are all automatic.

Seat Height and Fit

Confidence at low speeds begins with being able to touch the ground. If you are shorter than average, look for seat heights under 780mm. The Kymco Skytown 125 has a seat height of just 770mm, which suits a wide range of rider heights. The X-Town 125 sits at 785mm still accessible for most adults.

Storage

For commuters, under-seat storage is not an optional extra it is essential. Look for how many helmets fit and whether there is a charging point. The X-Town 125 accommodates two full-face helmets under the seat and includes a USB port in the glove compartment. If you commute with a laptop, check the storage dimensions before you buy.

Fuel Tank Capacity

Given fuel efficiency of 80100mpg, even a 7-litre tank will cover 100+ miles. The Agility City+ 125 has a 7-litre tank; the X-Town 125 offers 12.5 litres, which means noticeably fewer stops for a long-distance commuter. Consider how far you travel between fill-ups.

Braking Systems

Look for Combined Brake System (CBS) as a minimum on any modern 125cc scooter. CBS links the front and rear brakes so that applying one activates both proportionally, which helps prevent the front brake locking under heavy braking particularly relevant for new riders. Kymco fits CBS as standard across its 125cc range.

The Kymco 125cc Lineup What&#039;s Available

Kymco&#039;s UK 125cc range offers five distinct models, each targeting a different type of rider. Here is a clear breakdown.

Agility City+ 125
From approx. 2,299 OTR

The Agility City+ 125 is Kymco&#039;s entry-level urban scooter and, for many first-time buyers, the most logical starting point. It is compact, light, and designed for city use. The Euro 5 engine produces 6.6kW (8.8bhp) at 8,500rpm, which is more than sufficient for urban riding. The 7-litre tank keeps the weight down, and the Combined Brake System with 260mm front disc provides confidence-inspiring stopping power. Storage is practical rather than generous. It fits neatly in traffic and parks easily anywhere.

Skytown 125
2,595 OTR

The Skytown 125 is the pick of the mid-range. At 770mm seat height the lowest in the Kymco 125cc range it is immediately accessible to shorter riders. The 8.2kW engine (11.2bhp at 8,500rpm) brings it close to the 11kW A1 limit, giving decent road performance without feeling underpowered on the outskirts of town. It comes with three storage compartments, LED lighting throughout, a digital LCD instrument panel, and a USB charging port. Available in Petroleum Blue, Golden Brown, and Flat Black.

770mm Seat Height LED Throughout USB Charging 3 Storage Compartments Digital Dash

X-Town 125
3,799 OTR

The X-Town 125 is a maxi-style scooter in the 125cc class longer, heavier, and more comfortable for covering distance than the compact alternatives. The 11kW engine hits the A1 maximum, giving a quoted top speed of around 68mph. The 12.5-litre tank means far fewer fuel stops, and the under-seat storage accommodates two full-face helmets alongside a USB-equipped glove compartment. Adjustable rear suspension with five preload positions is an unusual feature at this price point. The X-Town suits commuters who regularly cover mixed urban and A-road routes and want more motorcycle in a 125cc package.

11kW / 15HP 12.5L Tank 2-Helmet Storage Adjustable Suspension ~68mph Top Speed

VSR 125
From approx. 2,499 OTR

If an automatic scooter is not what you are after, the VSR 125 is Kymco&#039;s 125cc naked motorcycle with a traditional five-speed manual gearbox. Sporty 17-inch alloy wheels, hydraulic telescopic forks with 120mm travel, and an upright naked riding position make it feel more like a proper motorcycle than most of its peers. It produces 7.6kW (10.2bhp) at 8,000rpm from its air-cooled Euro 5 engine. CBS braking is standard. Available in Matt Blue, Flame Orange, and Bright Green Metallic it stands out in a class where most machines look rather similar.

Manual 5-Speed 17&quot; Alloy Wheels Euro 5 CBS Braking 3 Colour Options

DTX 125
From approx. 3,799 OTR

The DTX 125 is Kymco&#039;s adventure-crossover take on the 125cc class. Where most scooters are optimised for town riding, the DTX brings wider handlebars for greater leverage, 110mm telescopic front fork travel, adjustable rear shocks with 100mm travel, and chunky adventure-style tyres to cope with broken surfaces and rougher roads. Traction control is standard unusual at this price and capacity. The riding position is upright and the keyless ignition, handguards, adjustable levers, and dual USB sockets make it as practical as it is distinctive. At 13.4bhp from its 124cc Euro 5 engine, it is one of the strongest-performing 125cc machines on the market. If your commute takes in poorly maintained roads or you simply want a more go-anywhere character, the DTX 125 is worth serious consideration.

&quot;A modern 125cc scooter can cover 100 miles on a single tank for less than 10 in fuel  for urban commuters, the economics are difficult to argue with.&quot;

Running Costs: Insurance, Tax, and Fuel

One of the strongest arguments for a 125cc scooter is how affordable it is to run once you own it. Here is a realistic breakdown of the annual costs you should budget for.

Road Tax (VED) ~26/year

Fuel (80100mpg, 5,000 miles/yr) ~300400/year

Insurance experienced rider (30+) From ~525/year

Insurance young rider (1720) 9001,400/year (typical)

Annual servicing (basic) 80150/year

Tyres (pair, typical life 1015k miles) 100180/pair

Insurance is the most variable element and the one most likely to surprise first-time buyers. Young riders aged 1620 typically pay the most, and the scooter&#039;s value, your postcode, and any security measures fitted all affect your premium. Shopping around via comparison sites and adding approved security devices can make a meaningful difference. As you accumulate riding experience and a clean record, premiums typically reduce each renewal.

Road tax for any motorcycle under 150cc currently stands at approximately 26 per annum a negligible cost compared to a car. Kymco models across the 125cc range are all Euro 5 compliant, which is relevant if you commute within or near any of the UK&#039;s existing or planned Clean Air Zones.

New vs Used: What&#039;s the Better Buy?

It is a question every first-time buyer faces, and there is no single right answer. Buying new from a Kymco dealer means a two-year unlimited-mileage manufacturer&#039;s warranty, a machine that has never been dropped or neglected, and the ability to finance over a period that suits your budget. You also benefit from a fresh PDI (pre-delivery inspection) and the knowledge that no previous owner has skipped servicing. For beginners especially, starting with a known-good machine removes a variable.

A used 125cc scooter will typically save you between 500 and 1,500 on the initial purchase price, but you carry the risk that goes with any second-hand vehicle. If you go the used route, check for accident damage carefully, verify the service history, confirm the VIN matches the V5C, and run a HPI check. A scooter with low mileage but a patchy service record is worth less than one with 8,000 miles and a full dealer stamp book. For a first machine that you expect to drop at low speed at some point, a lightly used example makes financial sense just buy from a reputable source and budget for any immediate remedial work.

New vs Used  Buyer&#039;s Verdict

Buying New

 Full manufacturer warranty included

 Finance options available from Kymco dealers

 Latest Euro 5 spec and technology

 No hidden service or repair history to worry about

Buying Used

 Service history may be incomplete or absent

 Potential for undisclosed cosmetic or mechanical damage

 Significantly lower purchase price

 Lower insurance group value = cheaper premiums

Our Verdict: Which 125cc Scooter Is Right for You?

The 125cc market in the UK is competitive, and Kymco&#039;s range covers it sensibly from end to end. Here is how to match the right model to the right rider.

If your budget is tight and your riding is entirely urban, the Agility City+ 125 is a proven, no-nonsense option. It does what it needs to do, costs little to run, and has enough performance for city riding without excess complication.

If you want something with a little more presence and modern technology at a mid-range price, the Skytown 125 is our pick of the range for most buyers. The low seat height, modern design, and practical feature set make it accessible and appealing, and the 2,595 price point is competitive for what is on offer.

For longer commutes or a rider who wants genuine maxi-scooter comfort within the 125cc class, the X-Town 125 is difficult to match at 3,799. The 12.5-litre tank, 11kW engine, and two-helmet storage make it an adult machine that happens to sit in the learner-accessible category.

If you want a proper manual gearbox and a more motorcycle-like experience, the VSR 125 is the clear choice sporty, well-built, and distinctive.

And if the roads between your front door and your destination are less than perfect, or you simply want a machine with genuine character, the DTX 125 adventure crossover is the most technically accomplished 125cc option in the range. Traction control and 13.4bhp in a learner-accessible machine is a compelling package.

Whatever your choice, every Kymco 125cc model is supported by a UK dealer network and the full manufacturer warranty. Find a Kymco dealer near you to see current stock and arrange a test ride.

ATV &amp; UTV Published: 4 March 2026 12 min read By Kymco UK

Whether you&#039;re managing a working farm in the Yorkshire Dales, maintaining a country estate in the Scottish Highlands, or simply demanding the best from your weekend off-road adventures, the Kymco UTV 700 is engineered to deliver. With a 695cc fuel-injected engine, Electric Power Steering, switchable four-wheel drive with a locking differential, and a towing capacity of 650kg, this is a machine that takes British conditions seriously.

The UTV market has grown enormously in the United Kingdom over recent years, and for good reason. Side-by-side vehicles (SSVs) occupy a uniquely practical space: they offer a comfortable seating position and weather protection that a quad bike cannot match, yet they maintain an off-road agility and ground clearance that leaves most compact tractors standing. The question is always which machine offers the best combination of capability, reliability, and value. After spending considerable time with the Kymco UTV 700, we&#039;re confident it makes an exceptionally strong case.

Engine &amp; Performance: Serious Power, Refined Delivery

At the heart of the UTV 700 sits a 695cc single-overhead-cam (SOHC), four-stroke, liquid-cooled engine, paired with a fuel injection system that ensures reliable cold starts and consistent throttle response whether you&#039;re idling through a muddy gateway or climbing a steep hillside pasture. Producing 45HP at 6,000rpm, this is not a machine that asks you to compromise on performance.

The transmission is a continuously variable automatic (CVT) with High, Low, Neutral, Reverse and Park modes, a selection that will feel immediately familiar to anyone who has driven an ATV or modern UTV. Low ratio provides the mechanical advantage you need for hauling heavy loads or crawling over uneven ground, whilst High gives you the pace to cover open fields and tracks in genuine comfort. There are no gearchanges to worry about; you simply select the appropriate range and the CVT manages everything else with smooth, progressive power delivery.

The 695cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine delivers 45HP with broad, usable torque throughout the rev range.

The 38-litre fuel tank is a genuine standout in this class. Larger tanks mean fewer interruptions during a long working day, and for anyone covering substantial acreage, or tackling an extended off-road trail, having that reserve capacity is a genuine practical advantage. Running costs are also kept in check by the efficiency of modern fuel injection, which optimises the air-fuel mixture across varying loads and altitudes.

Off-Road Capability: Built for the British Countryside

British terrain demands versatility above all else. Rocky moorland, sodden clay fields, steep grazing hillsides, and churned-up forest tracks, a UTV destined for UK use must cope with all of them, often in the same afternoon. The Kymco UTV 700 is engineered with precisely this in mind.

Suspension: Independent at Both Ends

Both front and rear suspension use a double A-arm configuration, with the rear featuring a fully independent setup (IRS Independent Rear Suspension). This matters enormously in practice. Where a solid rear axle transfers shocks from one wheel directly to the other, IRS allows each rear wheel to react independently to the ground beneath it. The result is vastly improved grip on uneven terrain and a significantly more comfortable ride for both driver and passenger.

That comfort is further enhanced by generous suspension travel, absorbing the impacts from roots, ruts and rocky outcrops that would leave a less-engineered machine battering its occupants. Long days in the field become markedly less fatiguing when the chassis is doing the hard work.

&quot;A ground clearance of 309mm means ditches, deep ruts, and uneven gateways are navigated with confidence, and without compromise.&quot;

Ground Clearance &amp; Dimensions

With a ground clearance of 309.88mm (12.2 inches), the UTV 700 sits high enough to clear the sort of obstacles that regularly trap lower-slung machines. At 2,897mm long and 1,555mm wide, the vehicle&#039;s footprint is practical for navigating between farm buildings and along established tracks without feeling unduly large or unwieldy.

Independent rear suspension and 309mm ground clearance make light work of British countryside challenges.

4WD, Diff-Lock &amp; EPS: Technology That Earns Its Keep

Electric 2WD / 4WD with Differential Lock

The electrically selectable 2WD / 4WD system means you can run in two-wheel drive on firm ground, saving fuel and reducing drivetrain wear, then switch to 4WD at the touch of a button when conditions demand. The addition of a locking differential takes this further still. Locking the differential forces equal drive to both axle shafts, maximising traction in the worst conditions: waterlogged fields, deep mud, or steep hillsides where one wheel risks lifting.

Electric Power Steering (EPS)

Electric Power Steering has transformed the UTV driving experience. Where older machines required considerable physical effort to steer at low speeds, particularly in soft ground, EPS provides variable assistance that reduces driver fatigue without removing the steering feel that gives you confidence on challenging terrain. For professionals spending hours at the wheel each day, this is not a luxury; it is a meaningful ergonomic improvement.

Electric Power Steering 4WD Diff-Lock Fuel Injection CBS Braking IRS Suspension Optional Full Cab 38L Fuel Tank Electric Start

Braking: Combined Braking System Front &amp; Rear

Hydraulic disc brakes at both axles provide confident stopping power regardless of speed or load. The Combined Braking System (CBS) links front and rear circuits to prevent the imbalanced braking that can unsettle a heavily loaded vehicle on a loose or downhill surface, a meaningful safety feature for those regularly descending steep pastures with a loaded cargo bed.

Towing &amp; Load Carrying: A Genuine Working Tool

For farmers and estate managers, the headline towing figure of 650kg is the one that matters most on paper. In real-world terms, that is sufficient to move a loaded livestock trailer, a substantial log trailer, or a fully laden equipment trailer around the farm without drama. Combine this with the engine&#039;s broad torque delivery and the low-range CVT ratio, and steep uphill tows with a heavy load are handled with composure.

The vehicle&#039;s substantial 674kg dry weight also works in your favour when towing: a heavier tow vehicle is a more stable one, less susceptible to the snaking and instability that can affect lighter machines when towing close to their rated capacity. The hitch assembly is a properly engineered unit with the maximum capacity label prominently displayed, a detail that matters when staying within legal load limits on UK roads.

The engineered tow hitch is rated to 650kg genuinely useful capacity for working farm and estate applications.

Cab Options: Year-Round Usability in the British Climate

The British climate is famously uncooperative, and an open-cockpit side-by-side becomes genuinely miserable during an autumn or winter spent in driving rain and single-figure temperatures. Kymco addresses this directly with two factory cab options:

The Full Cab (2,999) provides complete enclosure, protecting driver and passenger from rain, wind and cold, transforming the UTV 700 into a vehicle capable of genuine year-round use. The Half Cab (1,599) offers a windscreen and roof to deflect rain and reduce wind chill without fully enclosing the cabin, a useful middle ground for kinder weather whilst retaining meaningful protection.

Both are designed and fitted as factory options rather than aftermarket additions of variable quality, ensuring a clean, integrated result that competitors at comparable price points struggle to match.

Build Quality, Parts &amp; UK Warranty

Kymco has manufactured vehicles for over six decades and currently produces in excess of one million units annually. That industrial scale translates into manufacturing quality and supply-chain maturity that smaller manufacturers struggle to match. Panel fits are consistent, welds are clean, and hardware quality reflects a machine built to work rather than simply look the part at point of sale.

Importantly for UK buyers, Kymco UK provides full UK parts and warranty support, distributed from Bridgend, South Wales. Parts held domestically means downtime in the event of a required repair is minimised, a genuine operational advantage for any working vehicle.

The instrumentation is clear and practical exactly what a working vehicle requires.

Who Is the Kymco UTV 700 Best Suited To?

Farmers and agricultural workers will appreciate the 650kg towing capacity, the locking differential, the 38-litre tank, and the low-range transmission, all the tools needed for a productive day&#039;s work in all weathers.

Estate and land managers will value the combination of genuine off-road capability with ride comfort that makes longer property journeys far less taxing than a comparable quad bike. The two-seater layout means a colleague can ride along, something an ATV simply cannot accommodate.

Off-road enthusiasts will find a machine with ample performance, excellent suspension, and EPS making it a satisfying and accessible drive on green lanes and off-road parks alike.

Pricing &amp; Value: An Honest Assessment

At 10,599 RRP excluding VAT, the Kymco UTV 700 positions itself as a genuinely competitive option in the mid-range UTV market. Add the half-cab for 1,599 and the total remains well below the entry price of several comparable European and American alternatives, without sacrificing Kymco&#039;s domestically held parts infrastructure.

The Full Cab at 2,999 brings the total to 13,598 (exc. VAT), still representing excellent value for a fully capable, weather-protected side-by-side with EPS and diff-lock as standard. For businesses, the UTV may also qualify as a legitimate capital expenditure against tax, worth discussing with your accountant.

Verdict: The Kymco UTV 700 in Summary

The Kymco UTV 700 is a thoroughly competent, well-engineered, and genuinely practical side-by-side that serves the British market with an uncommon degree of thoughtfulness. Its combination of 45HP power, switchable 4WD with diff-lock, Electric Power Steering, and a 650kg towing capacity would be impressive at a higher price point. At 10,599 excluding VAT, with factory cab options and the full backing of Kymco UK&#039;s parts and warranty network, it makes a compelling case that is difficult to dismiss.

If you are in the market for a UTV that will genuinely earn its keep across the seasons, and across the challenging, unpredictable variety of British terrain, the UTV 700 belongs at the very top of your shortlist.

    <title>Modern Mobility in the Newport Wetlands</title>

    KYMCO NEWS

        We have received news from our wonderful dealers at Modern Mobility about their recent expansion efforts with KYMCO products into the Newport Wetlands. It is an honour to share this story with our audience! Please read below;

        ABOUT NEWPORT WETLANDS NATURE RESERVE

&quot;Newport Wetlands National Nature Reserve is owned and managed by Natural Resources Wales and works in partnership with RSPB Cymru, Newport City Council, and others, for the benefit of wildlife and people.

Tucked between the city of Newport and the Severn Estuary, Newport Wetlands National Nature Reserve offers a haven for wildlife. Covering over 438 hectares from Uskmouth to Goldcliff, the reedbeds, saline lagoons, wet grassland, and scrub, attract a wealth of wetland birds.&quot;

        WHAT THEIR PROBLEM WAS

MXU

&quot;RSPB Newport Wetlands offer a free rental mobility scooter service to their visitors but the current scooters they offer were old and worn out. It had come time to reinvest in making sure that the National Nature Reserve stays accessible to everyone by upgrading its current fleet.

Previously they had 3 Kymco Maxis that had been running strong for 10 years transporting people through the parks rough terrain and battling the weather conditions throughout the years they had stood the test of time.&quot;

        MODERN MOBILITIES SOLUTION

&quot;With their urgency to upgrade and keep the park accessible to all we were set a tight deadline, and instantly set out to find the perfect solution. The National Nature Reserve made it clear that they wanted something as reliable and durable as the current Kymco Maxis.

With all that in mind, we found the perfect solution theKymco Maxi XLSMobility Scooter which is a newer and improved version of what they currently had.

TheKymco Maxi XLSis an 8mph scooter that offers you the ultimate high performance, making the rough terrain comfortable. The full suspension system ensures smooth travel over indoor and outdoor surfaces making them the perfect companion to explore the trails of the nature reserve.

To make sure that RSPB Newport Wetlands got the family service we personally set out on an 8 hour round trip to hand-deliver them. So, we could guarantee that they came on time, and safe, and like on all the mobility aids we were able to provide introductory training on how to get the best possible use out of your scooter and how to use them safely.&quot;

        ABOUT MODERN MOBILITY

    <title>Adventure on a VSR</title>
    <link>https://www.kymco.co.uk/news/adventure-on-a-vsr</link>
    <description>

    KYMCO NEWS

        We would love to share with you all a wonderful story about the VSR 125, sent to usby a fellow KYMCO rider called Tony Mann. With some beautiful imagery, this story is a great telling of how great our VSR 125 really is! Please read below his story;

        &quot;I have owned just about every kind of motorcycle you can think of over the years including BMW gs1250, Suzuki Hayabusa and others too numerous to mention.I was looking for a cheap but reliable 125 that I could use to do my 40 mile per day commute. The KYMCObrand had appeal to me as they have such a good history of turning out good reliable and affordable bikes going way back to the days when they used to build bikes for the mighty Honda. After a visit to my local dealer I thought that a VSR 125 would be just the job and at a little over 2k on the road an absolute bargain.

For the price I wasnt really expecting much and as I already had a Vstrom and a Fireblade in the garage I wasnt that excited about picking it up.
Anyway, the day came for me to collect the bike and within the first 5 miles I found myself thinking this is actually quite a nice little bike.&quot;

        &quot;I ran her in with care and had the first service done by the dealer. As the engine loosened up a bit it became noticeably more willing to propel my 14 stone bulk up the very steep hills on my commute to work.

As time went on I found that this charming little bike became my bike of choice for all of my riding, even at weekends. It was great fun to go out and plan a route of smaller roads where this bike has more than enough go to be interesting, it also handled pretty well when pushed in the twisty bits. Returning almost 130mpg I could ask no more of it.

I had a friend who, like myself is an experienced biker who had also got a 125 so we decided to leave our big bikes at home and plan a camping trip around Wales on our 125s.This coincided with what turned out to be the hottest week of the year.

We loaded our bikes up with all we needed. The poor little VSR had a three birth tent, bedding, cooking kit and a whole load of other essentials for a week away loaded onto it plus my faithful sheepskin seat topper that I use on all of my bikes when I intend to put in some serious saddle time!&quot;

        &quot;We planned a route from our home in West Somerset, avoiding all the fast roads that we could, seeking out the most scenic back roads and lanes. So, to Bristol, over the severn bridge and all the way up through mid Wales taking in the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park and the Elan Valley then riding along the stunning North West coast line, around Snowonia national park and a circuitous route back home camping wherever we could find a site towards the end of each day.

We were putting in 8 to 10 hours per day riding with all of that kit, up and down the steepest of hills in blistering heat and the little bike just got on with it without any protest and never missed a beat.

I had done pretty well the same trip on my Vstrom a few monthsbefore but this time we were seeking out the twisty back roads and mountain passes which made it way more fun and felt like a proper 700 mile adventure.

My little VSR had managed to cover almost 6000 miles in 4 months. I serviced it regularly and it never complained and was always 100% reliable and up for anything I could throw at it.

So a message to anyone considering buying one of these charming and surprisingly capable bikes. Dont just commute to college or work with it, chuck some kit on it and go have an adventure!&quot;
