Feb 2007 - KYMCO EXPAND INTO PROFESSIONAL ATV MARKET
KYMCO is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of Scooters, Motorcycles and ATVs. But, its
Europe where the Taiwan based company has experienced unprecedented success for its utility
quad range, and this has firmly positioned them as the European market leader for road-legal
ATV’s. In 2005, KYMCO exported over 43,000 units. Figures for the first six months of trading in
2006 show 28,000 units shipped, reflecting a considerable increase in demand for its products.
With a strong heritage dating back to 1963, KYMCO has significantly increased its UK market
share for both it’s two and four-wheel machines in the last eight years, and now competes with
the best-known names in the industry. Crucially, all of KYMCO’s machines are affordable, offering
incredible value for money, without compromising on design quality and engineering excellence.
The secret to KYMCO’s success in the professional ATV market has been the development of the
new MXU range, and the organic growth of its business in the UK through MASCO. MASCO has
been increasing its ATV dealer network, building on the success of the two-wheel business, and is
now focused on broadening awareness of the MXU range to the forestry, local authority and
agricultural markets specifically.
As a manufacturer, KYMCO makes a huge commitment to research and development, which is
reflected in its MXU range. In less than 18 months KYMCO has introduced four separate ATV
models: MXU150, 250, 300 and now a powerful 500cc model, the MXU500, all of which are fully
homologated road legal machines with prices ranging from £2499 to £5499 inclusive of VAT. The
time to market demonstrates KYMCO’s immense flexibility and focus in responding to this growing
market.
The MXU 150RL and larger MXU 250RL have been designed for the professional and semiprofessional
markets and both inherit KYMCO’s proven pedigree for build quality and engineering
excellence. Both models benefit from an automatic gearbox and adjustable suspension, making
them comfortable and easy to use. The smaller MXU 150RL, which has a towing capacity of
100kg, is ideal for non-heavy duties, due to its lightweight build and easy manoeuvrability.
The MXU 250RL is a slightly larger version of the 150, and is one of the best selling road legal
quads in Europe offering excellent on or off-road capability. The increased power and more robust
nature of the MXU 250RL makes it ideal for towing larger loads and operating in more demanding
off-road environments.
Larger still, the MXU 300 RL professional ATV has a powerful 4-stroke liquid cooled 270cc engine,
automatic transmission, with high and low gear ratios, dual-purpose tyres, front and rear carriers
and features a low maintenance shaft drive. The vehicle’s gearing options make it ideal for
manoeuvring and towing across multi-terrain environments without causing undue wear and tear
to the engine.
New to the market, the MXU 500RL is the ultimate workhorse of the KYMCO range and signifies
the company’s continuing commitment to developing ‘fit for purpose’ quads for the professional
market. Powered by a liquid-cooled 500cc four-stroke engine, the heavy-duty machine benefits
from many significant features, including a switchable 2wd-4wd function, a fully automatic
high/low ratio CVT gearbox with reverse gear, adjustable suspension, electric and pull start, digital
display, an auto-locking front differential, and dual purpose tyres. The towing ability is 454kg
(1000lb), and load capacities are rated for the front, rear and hitch are rated at 45/85/450kg
respectively.
To complement the overall package, KYMCO also offer a valuable two-year parts and labour
warranty on all models as standard, and a competitive insurance offer in conjunction with
insurance partner, MCE. All customers who purchase a KYMCO Quad will also receive a free safety
and training DVD, which has been produced in conjunction with Lantra Awards and BikeSafe.
